Another integral part of my life is that for 13 years I’ve been a leader in the movement to create safer communities though reimagining justice outside prisons and jails. In this field, I’ve co founded an organization, published books and many articles, written and produced a critically acclaimed play, done extensive public speaking and media appearances, been the recipient of prestigious fellowships and awards, raised over a million dollars and led a pop-up national theater tour that is now being made into a film (see endofisolation.org). After being wrongfully imprisoned in 2009, I became a high-profile player at the center of diplomacy between several countries, appearing on The Oprah Show, meeting with President Obama and working closely with actor Sean Penn. Being forced into the limelight, at the center of very high-stakes international diplomacy empowered me and became a springboard for my subsequent leadership and journalistic, creative and healing-justice work. As an Impact & Leadership Coach, I offer fundraising support as well as campaign and organizational impact strategy. I also advise families regarding campaigning to free loved ones who are imprisoned in thisd country or held hostage abroad.
